The story behind this;

For a while now, I've been doing some art for an upcoming product, "Blood & Treasure" - basically a development off of 3.5 D&D.

One of the monsters requested was a mummy. Naturally I didn't want to do the standard, Egyptian mummy, so I did some brainstorming about mummies around the world and... found that Egyptian stuff "reads" best. How do you tell that dessicated Inuit bodies or leathery bog bodies from northern Europe are mummies, rather than just zombies or wights? I'd love to work "mummy bundles" into an adventure, and I'm still sad they didn't feature in Indiana Jones IV, but they don't work there. Sokushin butsu? Sounds a lot more like a clerical lich to me. What about China?

One of the cool Chinese archaeology things are the jade burial suits. This is ridiculous bling. Han dynasty noble bodies would get completely covered in small, laced together jade plates. For the longest time more recent people thought it was an exaggeration until they started digging these guys up. AWESOME Chinese mummy type, no?

So I drew up both the Egyptian type mummy and an extra sketch and sent both off to the customer. It's such a great idea that here's the illustration in case anyone else wants to use it in a game.
